Appearance: Canall is grayish-brown in color, with hints of red-gold mixed into his fur. This fur is short and scruffy, except on his bushy tail. His eyes are a dark green color, with specks of brown. This squirrel wears a simple gray sleeveless vest and black, ragged pants. A light purple braided cord belt is wrapped around his waist, which seems out of place on a squirrel of his strength. A dark brown eel-skin belt loops over one shoulder and goes around his opposite waist. Attached to the back of this shoulder-belt is an axe.
Personality: He seems generally cheerful. Canall is joking, mostly, and tends to take things lightly. He doesn't complain and rarely seems to get angry or bored. He's kept amused by the simplest of tasks and actually enjoys the most monotonous of jobs. Canall isn't too bright and he's a little fast to jump to conclusions. He doesn't like admitting he's wrong and won't put up with being teased. Mostly, though, he's just easy to get along with.
History: Canall Nyosiphkitz* was born in Southsward. His mother and father were natives and worked as servants, as did he for most of his life. At about twenty-five he decided he didn't like that kind of work and set out to make his own living. With a borrowed axe he chopped down a few trees and built himself a fine little hut in the woods.
He started a wood making business and discovered his talent -carving wood and making furniture. When he couldn't sell anything he'd offer to chop firewood (a hard, tiring, boring process) for the locals and exchange it for food, which wasn't really necessary because they probably would have given him food anyway.
One day he was sitting in a high tree, carving a swirly pattern in a living branch, when a voice said, "Doesn't that hurt the tree?"
It was the beginning of a relationship between Canall and a squirrelmaid named Sellah. They married and had children, two maids, actually, named Crayna and Lora.
When he heard about Black Arch Fort he was immediately interested. He wanted to go and help build things, since he was pretty much a master at furniture and the construction of small houses. He went on one of the first ships here, with much whining from his daughters and nagging from his wife. The first thing he did was befriend a large bird, one who could carry messages back and forth between Canall and his family.
(*The name Nyosiphkitz follows the tradition of taking the names of prominate fathers and mothers from the generations and squishing them together to make an overly complicated last name. Nyosiphkitz comes from the names Nydia, Osin, Pherin and Kitta; the 'z' was added for flair.)
Skills and weaponry: Canall is extremely handy with his axe; he's good at chopping wood and it makes him an efficient weapon when he needs it to be. His main skills lie in woodworking -building furniture and carving things.
